General Questions
What services can I obtain from Wood Wonders LLC? Top
Wood Wonders LLC specializes in custom wood doors, kitchen and bath cabinetry, home offices, entertainment centers, bars, fireplace mantels and unique millwork like trim and molding. We can also create any other unique project our clients can envision. We do not mass produce our products. Each piece we make is individually hand crafted. We are committed to the highest quality of craftsmanship and take pride in each piece we make.
How can I get an idea of the cost of the project I'm considering? Top
The doors, cabinets and furniture we make are all custom designed. We do not have a price list because each project is distinctive and priced individually based on the size, design and current wood prices. Wood Wonders LLC will work with the client to develop an original design, and we can also build from photographs and sketches.
We can provide preliminary cost estimates, after the client provides a description of the project requested, any measurements and style of the project. With this information we can provide a narrow price range that your project is likely to fall into.
After the preliminary pricing quote is provided for a project, we'll visit your home or project site to record the dimensions and features of the space by measuring and taking photographs. At this consultation meeting we'll discuss the particulars of the project and refine the design details. After that meeting, we'll prepare a formal project proposal, which includes a firm price based on a detailed list of specifications, a payment schedule, and a delivery date. If all parties agree to the proposal, it is signed by the client and Wood Wonders LLC representative and the job can be started.
How and when do I pay for the project? Top
As mentioned above, the formal project proposal includes a payment schedule. There is some flexibility in the payment schedule but projects are typically divided into three payments. The first payment is due upon acceptance of the formal project proposal and is normally 35%. Another 35% is due in the middle of the project and the remaining 30% balance is due upon completion. Smaller projects can be divided into 2 payments, while larger projects that stretch over a longer time frame can be divided into more than 3 payments for your convenience.
How long does it take to get the finished project? Top
Wood Wonders LLC responds to all inquiries very promptly, and can provide preliminary cost information within a couple days of receiving the necessary information from you. A client can contacts us by phone, e-mail or submit a quote request from this site. If a client requests a consultation meeting, this can normally be scheduled within a week. When your project can be completed depends on the scope of the project and how many other projects we have in progress. The time schedule and delivery date will be decided upon at the time of the formal project proposal. Depending on the size of the project, it could take up to two weeks to get the bulk of the materials and hardware ordered and received. Once a client's project is started, it has priority and most jobs are completed within 4 to 8 weeks, but again that varies with the scope of the project.
Door Information
What is considered a standard size door? Top
Industry standard size doors measure in heights of 6/8 (80''), 7/0 (84''), and 8/0 (96'') with widths starting at 1/4 (16'') increasing in 2'' increments up to 3/6 (42''). Since Wood Wonders LLC does only custom building, we can offer any door size our clients require. If you need a door that is 82" in height, we won't cut down a 7/0 (84") door, we'll build it custom to your specifications.
What is a rough opening?
Top
A rough opening is a framed opening in a wall used for the purpose of installing a window or door unit, before the jamb is added.
How do I determine what size my rough opening needs to be? Top
The rough opening must be larger than the size of the door unit to allow room to shim the unit square. To determine the rough opening for a standard prehung door we recommend that you add 2 ½'' to the door height and a minimum of 1 ½'' to the door width.
At what measurements does a 1 ¾'' thick door become required?
Top
Any width over 36'' (3/0) , or height over 90'' (7/6), will need to be 1 ¾'' thick to maintain the structural integrity of the door. All exterior doors that Wood Wonders LLC provides are a minumum of 1 ¾'' thick and can be up to 2 ¼'' maximum.
